How long does NSFAS fund you; www.nsfas.org.za Apply 2024 Online Application

Students who wish to enrol at a public university or institution in 2024 must now apply through the National Student Financial Help Scheme via the official website, www.NSFAS.org.za, in order to be eligible for financial aid. The government organisation NSFAS provides loans and scholarships to assist these students with their enrollment. TVET colleges and all 26 public universities admit only students who meet certain economic requirements. For students to be eligible for funding via the National Student Aid Scheme, their 2024 applications must be submitted before the deadline (NSFAS). The NSFAS Portal will close on January 31, 2024, at 11:59 PM.

 NSFAS 2024 Approved Application Date

  • From October 2023 to January 31, 2024

Applications are being accepted by the NSFAS for the year 2024. Kindly send in a request for financing for NSFAS between September 28, 2023, and January 31, 2024. January 31, 2024, is the new deadline for applications for 2024. Your application will not be accepted if it is received after the deadline, so please send it on time!

Who Should Apply for NSFAS Funding in 2024?

  • Citizens or long-term inhabitants of South Africa
  • SASSA grant recipients
  • Applicants with a combined annual gross household income of no more than R350 000
  • individuals with disabilities whose annual gross household income is not greater than R600,000.

Who Is DIsqualified To Apply for NSFAS In 2024

  • Students who have completed a previous qualification.
  • Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
  • Students who have already applied, qualified and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.

What NSFAS Scheme Pays 

Amounts indicated for accommodation, living allowance, transport and learning materials need to be aligned with the approved latest DHET guidelines.

UNIVERSITY

  • Accommodation
    As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500  per annum
  • Living allowance R15, 000  per annum
  • Book allowances R5200 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

TVET

  • Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
  • Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
  • Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350  per annum
  • Transport R7000 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

NSFAS Application Requirement To Submit In 2024

Documents Needed for NSFAS Online Application 2024-2025 are

  1. Certified copy of your Identity Document.
  2. Certified copy of a SASSA letter
  3. Certified copy of the ID document of each household member including parents or legal guardian.
  4. Certified copy of your latest academic transcript or exam results
  5. If either of your parents is deceased, please provide a certified copy of the death certificate.
  6. If your parents are divorced, please provide a certified copy of the divorce decree.

What Are The Ways To Apply NSFAS 2024

The detailed steps listed below should be followed in order to submit an NSFAS application.

  1. Begin by visiting the official NSFAS website: www.nsfas.org.za
  2. Locate and select the “myNSFAS” option, found on the page’s right-hand side menu.
  3. Set up your “myNSFAS” account using this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za
  4. To access your account, log in using your ID number, which will also serve as your username.
  5. Once logged in, find and click on the ‘Apply’ tab to initiate your application.
  6. Fill in every section, providing all the personal details as prompted.
  7. Proceed to attach and upload the necessary supporting documents for your application.
  8. Finally, submit your application to undergo a thorough review and assessment.

On September 28, 2023, the NSFAS online application for the subsequent academic year will become active. Only on the NSFAS application opening date are applicants able to see and submit award applications.

What Is Financed By NSFAS

If your application is accepted, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme will help with these study-related costs.

  • Accommodation
  • Transport
  • Living stipend
  • a budget for books
  • Allowance for incidentals or personal care

But if you’re a student at the University of South Africa (UNISA), NSFAS will cover the cost of the below-listed educational packages.

  • Tuition
  • a budget for books (subject to the number of modules you register)
  • Allowance for personal care

When NSFAS is Rejected, Who Can File an Appeal

An appeal may be filed with the NSFAS by a student whose financial aid application is denied or whose financial aid for a continuing student is withdrawn.

  • The appeal decisions are subject to budget availability.
  • Appeals will only be considered for students who have applied to NSFAS for Financial Aid.

Who Cannot Appeal After Rejection

Students are not permitted to appeal if they:

  • Are registered for a qualification that NSFAS does not fund;
  • They have reached N+2 (or N+3 in the case of students with disabilities).
  • The student is a gap year student whom NSFAS previously denied financial aid to because s/he did not meet the academic eligibility criteria.
  • If the institution has not submitted its registration record to NSFAS or has submitted an incorrect registration record such enquiries should be directed to the institution.
