The NSFAS Scheme is advantageous to students enrolling in any of South Africa’s 50 authorised TVET colleges. The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) invites students to apply for financial aid through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) for the 2024/2025 academic year. If a student is enrolled in undergraduate programs, disadvantaged students in South Africa may be eligible for financing from NSFAS. What TVET College Courses Does NSFAS Fund

Public TVET institutions offer a wide range of programmes and courses that are created to satisfy the need of businesses for certain, in-demand skills. Short courses last a few hours, whereas longer ones require three years to earn a full diploma.

Naturally, there is a wide range in the cost of the courses as well, but it’s important to remember that Department of Higher Education and Training programmes are completely supported, with numerous full bursaries available to cover the remaining 20% of teaching expenses.

  • Engineering Studies – (National Certificate -Vocational) NQF levels 2-4 & Engineering studies – Report 191 N1-N6
  • Engineering and Related Design; Electrical Infrastructure; Civil Engineering Construction and Information Technology & Computer Science
  • Business & Utility Studies (National Certificate – Vocational) NQF levels 2-4 & Report 191 N1-N6
  • Management; Marketing; Finance; Office Administration; Economics & Accounting; Education & Development; Hospitality; Tourism; Safety in Society and Transport & Logistics
  • Pre-Learning Programme (PLP) funding through NSFAS

What TVET Colleges Can Cover With the NSFAS Fund

NSFAS Will cover these expenses:

  • Registration & Tuition Fees
  • Personal Care Allowance
  • Transport Allowance
  • Accommodation Allowance

Students at TVET Colleges Who Qualify for NSFAS Applications

This scholarship programme is only available to citizens of South Africa;

  • A student must be enrolled in or planning to enrol in one of South Africa’s fifty (50) public TVET colleges on a PLP, NC(V), or Report 191 curriculum;
  • must be in need of financial aid (the NSFAS will decide if a student is eligible for financial aid or not);
  • Returning students are required to exhibit established and recognised academic achievement (academically meritorious) in compliance with the Bursary Rules and Guidelines or the College’s advancement policy, whichever is higher;
  • Must not be enrolling for a qualification that duplicates previous learning that was state-funded; and
  • Applicants will qualify if they fall within the maximum threshold of up to R350,000 of combined gross family income per annum and are admitted/received a firm offer for enrolment in a College.
