If a student plans to enrol in a public university or college in 2024, they can now apply for financial aid under the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. The application period is open and will remain available until January 31, 2024. Since TVET colleges and the other 26 public institutions only accept students from a particular economic background, the government organisation NSFAS offers loans and scholarships to help these students enrol. If a student is eligible for assistance through the National Student Aid Scheme, they must submit their 2024 applications before the closing date. As scheduled, the NSFAS Portal will close at 11:59 PM on January 31, 2024.

The NSFAS is now accepting applications for 2024. Please send in a grant proposal for NSFAS before January 31, 2024. The revised application deadline for 2024 is January 31, 2024. Please submit your application on time since it will not be approved if it is received after the deadline!

Who Must Submit an Application for NSFAS For 2024

• South African citizens or permanent residents
• SASSA grant recipients
• Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
• Persons living with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.

Who Cannot Apply for NSFAS 2024

• Students who have completed a previous qualification.
• Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.

Students who previously applied were accepted and were given financial support. As long as they do their coursework and pass all of their modules, they will be financially supported for the whole time.

What NSFAS Scheme Cover

The amounts specified for lodging, stipend, transportation, and educational materials must be in compliance with the most recent DHET regulations.

UNIVERSITY

• Accommodation
  As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
• Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500  per annum
• Living allowance R15, 000  per annum
• Book allowances R5200 per annum
• Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

TVET

• Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
• Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
• Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
• Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350  per annum
• Transport R7000 per annum
• Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

NSFAS Application Document To Send In 2024

Documents Needed for NSFAS Online Application 2024-2025 are

1. photocopy of your Identity Document.
2. photocopy of a SASSA letter
3. photocopy of the ID document of each household member including parents or legal guardian.
4. Certified copy of your latest academic transcript or exam results
5. If either of your parents is deceased, please provide a certified copy of the death certificate.
6. If your parents are divorced, please provide a certified copy of the divorce decree.

The detailed steps listed below should be followed to submit an NSFAS application.

• Begin by visiting the official NSFAS website: www.nsfas.org.za
• Locate and select the “myNSFAS” option, found on the page’s right-hand side menu.
• Set up your “myNSFAS” account using this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za
• To access your account, log in using your ID number, which will also serve as your username.
• Once logged in, find and click on the ‘Apply’ tab to initiate your application.
• Fill in every section, providing all the personal details as prompted.
• Proceed to attach and upload the necessary supporting documents for your application.
• Finally, submit your application to undergo a thorough review and assessment.

On October 2023, the NSFAS online application for the subsequent academic year will become active. Only on the NSFAS application opening date are applicants able to see and submit award applications.
