Eligibility Requirements for Bursary Applications At TVET College

Depending on the specific bursary programme and the entity that funds it, there are several eligibility conditions for TVET college bursaries. While some scholarships may only be given based on academic performance, others may give priority to a student’s field of study or financial need. Applicants must generally meet the requirements listed below:

  • This scholarship programme is only available to citizens of South Africa;
  • A student must be enrolled in or planning to enrol in one of South Africa’s fifty (50) public TVET colleges’ PLP, NC(V), or Report 191 programmes;
  • must require financial aid (NSFAS will decide whether or not a student satisfies the financial eligibility requirements);
  • Returning students must demonstrate proven and accepted academic performance (academically deserving) in line with the College’s progression policy or the progression prescriptions of the Bursary Rules and Guidelines (whichever is higher);
  • Must not be enrolling for a qualification that duplicates previous learning that was state-funded; and
  • Applicants will qualify if they fall within the maximum threshold of up to R350,000 of combined gross family income per annum and are admitted/received a firm offer for enrolment in a College.
