You must fulfil the following requirements to be qualified for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme:
- Every SASSA grantee
- Cell phone numbers and email addresses are crucial.
- hold a current ID and be a South African citizen.
- Enrol in TVET or university for the first time as a student.
- The annual income of a household cannot be more than R350,000.
- must fulfil the prerequisites academically to be admitted to a TVET institution or university.
- The yearly household income of those with disabilities shouldn’t be more than R600,000.

Documentation Required for NSFAS Applications
Every applicant needs to send in:
- a duplicate copy of your identity document certified.
- A certified copy of an SASSA letter
- a certified copy of the identification of every member of the household, including the parents or legal guardians.
- a verified copy of your most current academic record or test results
- Should one or both of your parents have passed away, kindly submit a certified copy of the death certificate.
- Please submit a certified copy of the divorce decree if your parents are no longer together.
- Certified copy of your ID, not older than 3 months A signed and completed consent form.
- If you are dependent on your parents/guardian/spouse, please provide Certified ID copies of parent/s, guardian, spouse not older than 3 months and Proof of income of parent, guardian or spouse (payslip or appointment letter If you are self-sufficient (no parent/guardian support) please provide: Proof of income (payslip or appointment letter).
- If you have a disability, please provide a completed and signed Annexure A (if your information is not pre-populated on the portal). If you are an orphan, please provide the completed and signed Declaration Form, Other documents required, if applicable: Retrenchment letter / UIF documentation; Death certificate/s; Divorce decree.
What You’ll Need To Use The NSFAS Wallet To Get Your NSFAS Allowances
- Your own cell phone and valid SIM card
- You must sign your NSFAS Bursary Agreement if you are a new student to NSFAS
- You will not need to withdraw cash to pay your landlord or any registered merchant.
Steps for Filing an NSFAS Appeal
Use these procedures to submit an Appeal.
- To access the myNSFAS website, click this link.
- Open your myNSFAS account and log in.
- Select the option to “Track Funding Progress.”
- Examine the tabs for application progress.
- If your application status reflects an unsuccessful message, you may submit an appeal by clicking on the ‘Submit Appeal Tab’.
- Once you are on the ‘Application Appeal’ page, you can see the reason for your unsuccessful application status.
- You are then able to choose the appeal reason.
- Upload certified supporting documents to support your reason.
- Click ‘Submit Appeal’.
