As of right now, students who want to enrol in a public university or public college in 2024 can apply for financial aid via the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. Applications are now being accepted, and the deadline is January 31, 2024. Loans and scholarships are offered by the government agency NSFAS to help students from particular economic backgrounds enrol at TVET colleges and the other 26 public universities that only accept students from Lower backgrounds. For students to be eligible for financing through the National Student Aid Scheme in 2024, their applications must be submitted before the closing date. The NSFAS Portal will end as scheduled on January 31, 2024, at 11:59 PM.

Who Needs to Submit a 2024 NSFAS Application?

• either nationals of South Africa or long-term residents
• SASSA grant recipients
• Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
• Persons living with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.

Ineligible Candidates for NSFAS 2024

• Students with prior qualifications completed.
• Students whose home income as a whole exceeds R350,000 annually.

Students who had previously applied were accepted and also given financial aid. As long as they finish their homework and receive passing grades in every subject, they will receive financial assistance for the whole time they are in school.

 NSFAS Allowances 2024

According to the most recent DHET standards, the funds allocated for housing, stipend, transportation, and educational materials must match.

UNIVERSITY

• Accommodation
  As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
• Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500  per annum
• Living allowance R15, 000  per annum
• Book allowances R5200 per annum
• Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

TVET

• Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
• Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
• Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
• Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350  per annum
• Transport R7000 per annum
• Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

NSFAS Application Document To Send In 2024

Documents Needed for NSFAS Online Application 2024-2025 are

1. photocopy of your Identity Document.
2. photocopy of a SASSA letter
3. photocopy of the ID document of each household member including parents or legal guardian.
4. Certified copy of your latest academic transcript or exam results
5. If either of your parents is deceased, please provide a certified copy of the death certificate.
6. If your parents are divorced, please provide a certified copy of the divorce decree.

The detailed steps listed below should be followed to submit an NSFAS application.

• Begin by visiting the official NSFAS website: www.nsfas.org.za
• Locate and select the “myNSFAS” option, found on the page’s right-hand side menu.
• Set up your “myNSFAS” account using this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za
• To access your account, log in using your ID number, which will also serve as your username.
• Once logged in, find and click on the ‘Apply’ tab to initiate your application.
• Fill in every section, providing all the personal details as prompted.
• Proceed to attach and upload the necessary supporting documents for your application.
• Finally, submit your application to undergo a thorough review and assessment.

In November 2023, the NSFAS online application for the subsequent academic year will become active. Only on the NSFAS application opening date are applicants able to see and submit award applications.
