It is an exciting prospect to begin a journey of higher education at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), and the first step is to apply online with ease. We’ll walk you through the process of applying online to the University of Johannesburg in this post, so you can confidently begin your academic journey. You may apply online at www.uj.ac.za and follow a link to study @UJ to either apply online or you may download the application form, which should either be submitted to the Student Enrolment Centre or mailed to the University. Online applicants are exempted from paying an application fee, whereas hardcopy applicants are expected to pay a non-refundable application fee of R200.
ALL INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS ARE TO TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:
Submit a completed application form with supporting documents :
- Submit a completed application form with supporting documents together with a non-refundable application fee of R200.00
- Online applications are free
- Supporting documents may be uploaded on the application platform or emailed to intappsdocs@listsrv.uj.ac.za
- If you are a current student still to complete a pre-requisite qualification or your Final academic transcript if your studies have been completed.
- Valid Passport or Identity Document.
- Sworn English Translation of documents (Documents issued in any Language other than English)
- Provide proof of English Proficiency where English was not used as a medium of lecturing (the University prefers the applicant to take the IELTS at an overall score of 7 and TOEFL at an average score of 105–120 for Postgraduate programmes)

This application form is ONLY for (1st Time Entering Students) students who NEVER studied before and NOT for students who are already registered students at UJ.
Online residence application – How to guide
- Step 1 | Enter your student number and pin to log in.
- Step 2 | When you are logged in, expand the ‘Student Web Systems’ folder
- Step 3 | Expand the ‘Application Process’ folder
- Step 4 | Click on the ‘Application Process’ folder on the left-hand side
- Step 5 | Click on the ‘Add New Residence Application’ button:
- Step 6 | Complete the highlighted fields and then click on the ‘Proceed With Application’ button:
- Step 7 | Click on the “New Record’ button to submit your application
