Funding For Tvet Colleges

There are fifty public Tvet Colleges in South Africa which get their funding from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) which is an initiative of the government.

The Department of Higher Education and Training funds the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) program for students who lack the funds to pay for their education and are unable to acquire bank loans, study loans, or bursaries. The goal of NSFAS is to provide access to higher education for students from low-income households who would not otherwise be able to afford textbooks, housing, tuition, and other educational expenses.

Application Dates For NSFAS

The application dates for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme start from the month of September 2023 and end on the 31st of January 2024, Therefore, we advise applicants who wish to apply can start with their application process now before the deadline of the application to avoid rejection.

Application Requirements For NSFAS

Applicants who qualify for financial aid can take note of the documents needed during their application.

  • Applicant’s cellphone number and email address
  • Applicants must submit a copy of their ID or birth certificate
  • Applicants must submit ID copies of parents, guardians or spouse
  • Applicants must submit proof of income or 1 year’s IRP5 (if applicable)
  • Applicants must submit parents, guardian or spouse’s proof of income
  • Applicants must submit  SASSA grant recipient
  • Applicants with a disability must submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form,
  • An applicant who is recognised as a Vulnerable Child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form.

Application Eligibilities For NSFAS

Applicants who fall within this category can proceed with their applications.

  • Applicants should be a South African citizen
  • Applicants should  have all SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
  • Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 yearly
  • Applicants with disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 yearly
  • Students who started studying before 2018 and whose household income is not more than R122 000 yearly

Application Process For NSFAS

To ensure a successful application for financial aid should follow these guidelines.

  • Applicants should go to www.nsfas.org.za and click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab
  • Applicants should create a myNSFAS account
  • Applicants should click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and answer the questions on the screen
  • Applicants should upload the required supporting documents and then click on ‘submit’
