What To Do To Ensure Continuous NSFAS Funding

The following are expected guidelines that each applicant should follow to be eligible for NSFAS funding:

  1. Students must provide the correct information when applying for the NSFAS funding.
  2. Students must meet the minimum requirements to study at a higher learning institution.
  3. All applicants Must be South African citizens who show the need for NSFAS funding.
  4. Students must pass at least 50% of their modules in a given academic year.
  5. Students must take note of the N+ Rule meaning each student is given one extra year if they fail a course in a given academic year. It is also important to note that the N+ rule applies when a student registers at a public institution of higher learning and is funded by NSFAS.
  6. Students must meet a minimum requirement standard of the institution in terms of their academic performance.

How May One Lose Their NSFAS Scholarship

When beneficiaries and applicants break any or all of the rules set forth in the terms and conditions of NSFAS, financial aid and support associated with the programme may be forfeited by the students in a number of ways.

  • Among them is giving incorrect and misleading information when submitting an NSFAS application.
  • Additionally, you will undoubtedly lose your NSFAS bursary if you are unable to pass your modules with a 50% passing rate in a given year.

When You Fail, does NSFAS Stop off Funding?

Failing to meet this requirement will result in the NSFAS stopping your funding, just like any other traditional bursary programme. Recipients must maintain a specific academic standard to be eligible for support throughout the length of their selected degree.

Successful completion of at least 50% of the modules required by NSFAS for academic credit is expected of recipients; failure in any one of your modules will result in automatic disqualification from funding.
