To take the Senior Certificate exam as an adult in 2024, one must register between October 1, 2023, and February 13, 2024, if they meet the requirements. Who Is Eligible for the Matric Rewrite?
The Senior Certificate programme is open to admission to the following applicants:
- Students who are adults, at least 21 years old, and who have:
- a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC);
- An academic report from Grade 9 (formerly called Standard Seven). stating that they have finished Grade 9 or Standard 7; or
- a recognised equivalent qualification at the NQF Level that requires proficiency in two official languages.
- persons who are pursuing an unfinished Senior Certificate and are at least 21 years old.
- Individuals 21 years of age and above who are pursuing an unfinished National Senior Certificate
- In rare instances, out-of-school adolescents between the ages of 18 and 21 who were unable to finish their education because to circumstances outside of their control—verified by the department head in the Provincial Education Department.
- Adult candidates who are 21 years and older with an incomplete NSC may choose to complete the NSC or convert to the Senior Certificate. Should the candidate choose to convert to the Senior Certificate, they may not revert to the
- NSC and attempt to complete the NSC qualification.
- Adult candidates who have already obtained a qualification but wish to improve their results/status.
