Are NSFAS appeals open for 2024; Are NSFAS Applications Closed

In order to receive financial help, students who want to enrol in a public university or college in 2024 must now apply through the National Student Financial Help Scheme. NSFAS. To help these students enrol, the government agency NSFAS offers loans. Only students from a specified economic level are admitted to TVET colleges or any of the 26 public universities. In order to be eligible for assistance through the National Student Aid Scheme, a student must submit their 2024 applications before the closing date (NSFAS). The NSFAS Portal is scheduled to close at 11:59 PM on January 31, 2024.

Applications are being accepted by the NSFAS for the year 2024. Kindly submit a grant proposal by January 31, 2024, for NSFAS. January 31, 2024, is the new deadline for applications for 2024. Your application will not be accepted if it is received after the deadline, so please send it on time!

Who Can Send NSFAS Application?

  1. South African citizens or permanent residents
  2. SASSA grant recipients
  3. Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
  4. Persons living with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.

Who Cannot Apply for NSFAS In 2024

  • Students who have completed a previous qualification.
  • Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
  • Students who have already applied, qualified and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.

What NSFAS Bursary Allowance

Amounts indicated for accommodation, living allowance, transport and learning materials need to be aligned with the approved latest DHET guidelines.

UNIVERSITY

  • Accommodation
    As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500  per annum
  • Living allowance R15, 000  per annum
  • Book allowances R5200 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

TVET

  • Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
  • Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
  • Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350  per annum
  • Transport R7000 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

NSFAS Application Document To Submit In 2024

Documents Needed for NSFAS Online Application 2024-2025 are

  1. Certified copy of your ID.
  2.  photocopy of a SASSA letter
  3. Certified copy of the ID document of each household member including parents or legal guardian.
  4. Certified copy of your latest academic transcript or exam results
  5. If either of your parents is deceased, please provide a certified copy of the death certificate.
  6. If your parents are divorced, please provide a certified copy of the divorce decree.

Steps To Apply Online for NSFAS 2024

The detailed steps listed below should be followed in order to submit an NSFAS application.

  1. Begin by visiting the official NSFAS website: www.nsfas.org.za
  2. Locate and select the “myNSFAS” option, found on the page’s right-hand side menu.
  3. Set up your “myNSFAS” account using this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za
  4. To access your account, log in using your ID number, which will also serve as your username.
  5. Once logged in, find and click on the ‘Apply’ tab to initiate your application.
  6. Fill in every section, providing all the personal details as prompted.
  7. Proceed to attach and upload the necessary supporting documents for your application.
  8. Finally, submit your application to undergo a thorough review and assessment.

Important NSFAS Allowance Payment Dates for 2024

Monthly payments, are usually made during the first week of each month for a period of ten months.

Notable: Student payments differ. Thus, don’t lose your cool if your flatmate gets their allowance before you do.
