A student can now apply for financial aid under the National Student Financial Aid Scheme if they intend to enrol in a public university or institution in 2024. The deadline for applications is January 31, 2024, and it is currently open. The government agency NSFAS provides loans and scholarships to assist students from specific economic backgrounds in enrolling in TVET colleges and the other 26 public institutions, which exclusively admit students from these backgrounds. A student must submit their 2024 applications before the closing date if they qualify for funding from the National Student Aid Scheme. The NSFAS Portal will close on January 31, 2024, at 11:59 PM, as planned.

Who Must Submit an Application for NSFAS For 2024

• South African citizens or permanent residents
• SASSA grant recipients
• Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
• Persons living with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.

Who Cannot Apply for NSFAS 2024

• Students who have completed a previous qualification.
• Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.

Previously applied students received financial help in addition to acceptance. They will get financial support for the duration of their studies, provided they complete their assignments and pass each subject.

UNIVERSITY

• Accommodation
  As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
• Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500  per annum
• Living allowance R15, 000  per annum
• Book allowances R5200 per annum
• Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences

TVET

• Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
• Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
• Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
• Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350  per annum
• Transport R7000 per annum
• Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

NSFAS Application Document To Send In 2024

Documents Needed for NSFAS Online Application 2024-2025 are

1. photocopy of your Identity Document.
2. photocopy of a SASSA letter
3. photocopy of the ID document of each household member including parents or legal guardian.
4. Certified copy of your latest academic transcript or exam results
5. If either of your parents is deceased, please provide a certified copy of the death certificate.
6. If your parents are divorced, please provide a certified copy of the divorce decree.

• Begin by visiting the official NSFAS website: www.nsfas.org.za
• Locate and select the “myNSFAS” option, found on the page’s right-hand side menu.
• Set up your “myNSFAS” account using this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za
• To access your account, log in using your ID number, which will also serve as your username.
• Once logged in, find and click on the ‘Apply’ tab to initiate your application.
• Fill in every section, providing all the personal details as prompted.
• Proceed to attach and upload the necessary supporting documents for your application.
• Finally, submit your application to undergo a thorough review and assessment.

On October 2023, the NSFAS online application for the subsequent academic year will become active. Only on the NSFAS application opening date are applicants able to see and submit award applications.
