Students can now apply for financial aid through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme if they intend to attend a public university or college in 2024. NSFAS. Only students from households with a specific economic level are admitted to TVET colleges or any of the 26 public institutions; therefore, to assist these students in enrolling, the government agency NSFAS provides loans and scholarships. A student must submit their 2024 applications before the closing date (NSFAS) if they are qualified for funding through the National Student Aid Scheme. The NSFAS Portal will shut down on January 31, 2024, at 11:59 PM, as planned.
What Date Does the NSFAS 2024 Application End

The NSFAS is now accepting applications for the year 2024. Please submit a funding request for NSFAS before January 31, 2024. The application deadline for 2024 is now January 31, 2024. Make careful to submit your application on time because any received after the deadline won’t be accepted!

Who Must Apply for NSFAS Funding in 2024?
- South African citizens or permanent residents
- SASSA grant recipients
- Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
- Persons living with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
Who Cannot Apply for NSFAS In 2024
- Students who have completed a previous qualification.
- Students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum.
- Students who have already applied, qualified and received funding. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.
What NSFAS Bursary Cover
Amounts indicated for accommodation, living allowance, transport and learning materials need to be aligned with the approved latest DHET guidelines.
UNIVERSITY
- Accommodation
As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence) - Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500 per annum
- Living allowance R15, 000 per annum
- Book allowances R5200 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance of R2900 per annum for students in catered residences
TVET
- Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
- Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
- Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
- Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
- Transport R7000 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum
NSFAS Application Document To Submit In 2024
Documents Needed for NSFAS Online Application 2024-2025 are
- Certified copy of your Identity Document.
- Certified copy of a SASSA letter
- Certified copy of the ID document of each household member including parents or legal guardian.
- Certified copy of your latest academic transcript or exam results
- If either of your parents is deceased, please provide a certified copy of the death certificate.
- If your parents are divorced, please provide a certified copy of the divorce decree.
How to Apply Online for NSFAS 2024
The detailed steps listed below should be followed in order to submit an NSFAS application.
- Begin by visiting the official NSFAS website: www.nsfas.org.za
- Locate and select the “myNSFAS” option, found on the page’s right-hand side menu.
- Set up your “myNSFAS” account using this link: https://my.nsfas.org.za
- To access your account, log in using your ID number, which will also serve as your username.
- Once logged in, find and click on the ‘Apply’ tab to initiate your application.
- Fill in every section, providing all the personal details as prompted.
- Proceed to attach and upload the necessary supporting documents for your application.
- Finally, submit your application to undergo a thorough review and assessment.
On September 28, 2023, the NSFAS online application for the subsequent academic year will become active. Only on the NSFAS application opening date are applicants able to see and submit award applications.
